Providing support to CWU Members in the Coventry Area Branch |

|
In light of the announcement by the ConDem Government of its intention to privatise Royal Mail the Communication Workers Union has launched a campaign to keep Royal Mail in the Public Sector.
Each postal branch, (including this one), is busy building a local coalition of opposition, (including MPs, Local Councillors and small businesses), to the Government’s plans.
This branch and the union as a whole will be campaigning against the proposed privatisation in the coming weeks and months.

ConDem Government plans to privatise Royal Mail... |
|
The Government says that it wants to privatise Royal Mail in order for the business to be able to face the challenges before it in the Postal Industry.
However things have changed significantly since the last Government announced and then shelved its plans to part privatise Royal Mail last year!
Earlier this year the CWU and Royal Mail agreed the Business Transformation Agreement 2010, a structured agreement that set out Royal Mail’s future regarding streamlining the business and adopting new technology, (both areas that will ensure the business is on a firm footing for success!).
As a consequence the CWU firmly believes that this agreement allows Royal Mail to meet the challenges it currently faces and protects its Universal Service Obligation (USO). The CWU firmly believes that privatisation will seriously damage Royal Mail and will result in further job losses, which in turn will have disastrous consequences to the service provided to the public and to the Universal Service Obligation.
If the Government are serious about helping Royal Mail face the challenges before it then it should instruct the Ombudsman to relax restrictive regulation that has seen Royal Mail compete at a severe disadvantage with other UK Mail Carriers. A more level and open market place in conjunction with the future strategy for Royal Mail set out in and currently being implemented through, the Business Transformation Agreement 2010. |
