Smiley 4 Emblem!

Welcome to the campaign for getting a Yellow Smiley Face adopted as the national symbol for the Communication Workers Union!

Why a Yellow Smiley Face?

Well it struck me that the Communication Workers Union is sadly lacking an emblem with which to identify itself with!  So I decided to sit down and have a good old think as to what sort of emblem we, as a trade union, could adopt that would ultimately speak volumes about us!

Here is a shortlist of emblems I considered:-

Too drab—no colour I decided against the mail and globe!!!

Rubbish the postie is American—not much cop as we represent British Postal Workers

We do represent Telecom Workers but we also represent Postal Workers and lots of other workers so it’s not representative of everyone!

Mmmm nice and eye catching but upon reflection—nah it’ll never work!!!!

A cat—yes we have a lot of things in common with a cat, we’re agile, independent, some of our reps have many lives and we poop in trays... Ok maybe not a cat...

We’re smiley, we’re friendly, we’re happy, we're positive oh yes this is so us—we have a winner!!!

What a Yellow Smiley Face can do for us as a National Emblem

It can promote good feeling amongst our members.

It can inspire people to join the CWU as we will be viewed as being a friendly, happy organisation.

Employers will want to be generous when negotiating with us because we’re such a friendly organisation.

As representatives we will stop feeling depressed and under appreciated every time they look at our cheery logo.

Some say, that the smiley face emblem very much resembles Billy Hayes face, which is appropriate as he is the figure head of our beloved union, (I can’t see it myself though)!

Love or loathe the Yellow Smiley Face?

And Finally... Remember Always Read the Small Print!!!

Please kindly note this is not, repeat not, in any shape way or form a serious campaign—The campaign has been set up because as part of my course work for the Postal Organising Ambassador Stage 2 Course run by Solihull College, thinking that the exercise was purely theoretical,  I foolishly stated that I could run this campaign.  Then after completing the exercise setting out how I would run this campaign I was told that I had to run it in order to pass the course—Haydn Wills you are a GIT, (not wishing to put too fine a point on things !!!!).
